Personal factors influencing the motivation to engage in healthy life behavior: a qualitative study among Indonesian obese adult women

Background: As a part of social cognitive theory (SCT), personal factors can be potential mediators behavior change. Knowing what motivates adult obese women to carry out healthy life help program planners develop intervention strategies overcome obesity. This study examined the influencing women's motivation adopt behaviors.Methods: descriptive-qualitative was conducted from July October 2021 in city Bogor, Indonesia. Participants were selected by purposive sampling eight noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) posts (NCDs Posbindu). The data collected using semi-structured, open-ended questions video conference platform. All recorded interviews transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis with deductive coding (theory-driven) used analyse data.Results: A total 26 aged 19-40 interviewed within discussion groups. Three theory-driven codes chosen, and four themes created nine clustered transcripts: “health education promotion,” “the positive negative impacts eating food exercising regularly on body finances,” “facilitators regularly,” “barriers food, weight monitoring regularly”. Lack knowledge about management guidance, time resources constraint, low self-efficacy reduce continue an activity or target behavior.Conclusions: Obese need more weight-management knowledge, skills, assistance concerned mediators.
